Edith (Edie) Louise Voorhees, of Ventura, passed away peacefully on Friday, March 7, 2014. Edie was born January 5, 1927 in London, England to Sam and Mary Spinks. To escape the bombings of London during WWII, her family moved to the Norfolk countryside, where she later met and married an American soldier, Keith Voorhees. They moved to Ventura in 1946.
Edie became an American citizen so that she could vote in the 1960 presidential election for John F. Kennedy.
She was a long time director of Margaret Hope Preschool in Ventura and member...

Edith (Edie) Louise Voorhees, of Ventura, passed away peacefully on Friday, March 7, 2014. Edie was born January 5, 1927 in London, England to Sam and Mary Spinks. To escape the bombings of London during WWII, her family moved to the Norfolk countryside, where she later met and married an American soldier, Keith Voorhees. They moved to Ventura in 1946.
Edie became an American citizen so that she could vote in the 1960 presidential election for John F. Kennedy.
She was a long time director of Margaret Hope Preschool in Ventura and member of St. Paul's Episcopal Church. She was a Troop Leader for the Girl Scouts of America and active with the Loma Vista Elementary School PTA.
Edie enjoyed reading and writing poetry. She loved sharing her English heritage with her friends and family. She took pleasure in her home and garden and was surrounded by wonderful neighbors.
She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Keith and sisters, Doris and Kathleen. Edie is survived by her daughters, Kathy, Sally and Becky; half-brother, Sam; sons-in-law, Bob and Bill; grandsons, Nicholas and Justin; granddaughters, Sarah and Molly; and great-granddaughters, Jordyn and Peyton. Edie was a special "Auntie" to John, Glenn, Larry and Beth.
Private services were held at St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Ventura, California.
